Big Boats Need Tough Tyres

“The first thing I noticed with my new Mickey Thompson Tires is the handling of my vehicle has improved, these Mickey Thompson tyres are unbelievable, they have stronger side walls and according to the tyre guys they are twice the strength.”

Tom Nicholas says,” I love fishing and hunting and I rate New Zealand as the greatest country. Kiwi’s enjoy one of the world’s best backyards for fishing and hunting whilst we enjoy the spoils of nature at it’s best.

I was excited when I bought my new Bayliner Trophy 21ft / 6.6 metres weighing 2.7 ton which I tow with my 1997 Toyota Landcrusier. When it comes to driving to my favourite holiday spots with my family, I always consider all safety precautions. Besides life jackets big boats surely need tougher tyres. Leaving Auckland my Landcruiser really struggled when turning into those tight corners as I weaved over the Brenderwyn hills on my way to Whangerai. The extra load of my bigger boat caused my truck to wander all over the road and I had to work at keeping the truck on track, a tiring exercise.

Typically Kiwi’s seem to get bigger boats and bigger trucks. Towing a boat around New Zealand doesn’t come with out its challenges. We find ourselves negotiating the winding roads nestled amongst our green lush rural farms as we venture out to our favourite fishing or hunting spots. I bought my Toyota Landcrusier two years ago and found that my original tyres had soft sidewalls and handled poorly under load and when breaking in the wet they were average. After a bit of research on the web and after speaking to my local tyre dealer I decided to buy Mickey Thompson STZ’s.

After speaking to the local tyre guys about the handling on road and the new boat and extra load they recommended the Mickey Thompson STZ, a tyre for 80% on road and 20% offroad.

The advantage of the Mickey Thompsons is they had deeper treads which improved my braking in the wet and traction off road. The side walls are noticeably stronger as demonstrated when I pushed down on top of the tire when it was off the rim. I was able to compare the strength of Mickey Thompson tyres to other brands of 4wd tyres. The secret to a tougher tyre is a stronger casing with stronger side walls.

The real value is my trips away are safer and my new boat tows easier and I enjoy better traction off road as well. The first thing I noticed with my new Mickey Thompson Tires is the handling of my vehicle has improved, these Mickey Thompson Tires are unbelievable, they have stronger side walls and according to the tyre guys they are twice the strength. I really noticed the difference on my first trip back up to Whangerai as I drove up through the winding Brenderwyns effortlessly.

Big boats need tough tires, what a difference. Good luck to all fisherman stay safe and don’t forget the life jackets.

Rangitata Island is Real Tough on Tyres

“Mickey Thompson Tires are unbelievable and I wouldn’t change them.”

Rangitata Island is real tough on tyres says Ben Eason. I have 375 hectares and I am a dairy farmer, for those who are not aware Rangitata Island is mostly river bead terrain.

The rugged terrain is sometimes challenging especially when trying to find a tyre that will last the distance. I have a 2010 Mazda Bounty which I use for farming every day, hunting and towing my boat, so the vehicle gets a real work out 100% of the time.

In the past I have tried all the brands out there in the market and found I would only get 12,000km to 13,500kms which is not a lot. Faced with the challenge of tough terrain and a relentless work routine I was most interested in the new Mickey Thompson Tires that became available at my local tyre outlet.

Initially, I was apprehensive about the extra coin that the Mickey Thompson Tires cost, but in reflection I have no worries  as so far I have got 35,000kms out of my new Mickey Thompson MTZ’s and they are only half worn.

Any doubt that these tyres were value for money was put to rest, Mickey Thompson Tires are unbelievable and I wouldn’t change them.

I like to go hunting and the other day I had to laugh when I was driving out of the bush after a day hunting with my mate. My mate and I crossed the river and we got washed a bit down the river. As you know when you drift down the odd river time to time as you bob down bouncing the tyre along the river bead. With the water up to the sill and followed my mate boating down the river with me we finally drove out further down the river. Well my mate doesn’t have Mickey Thompsons yet and his tyres popped off his rims as he was dragged sideways, not me though I drove out ready to keep driving on my MTZ’s.

The Slippery Slopes Surrounding Temuka

“When I heard about the Mickey Thompson Tires and that they were New Zealand’s Toughest Traction Tyre I thought I would put them to the test”

The slippery slopes surrounding Temuka challenge even the best at times, Daniel Kelly works hard spraying in some of the most challenging area’s and some times he finds his team unable to venture into certain spots due to loss of traction.

Daniel said, “When I heard about the Mickey Thompson Tires and that they were New Zealand’s Toughest Traction Tyre I thought I would put them to the test”. It’s always important to get the right tools to do the job and Daniel was glad he chose his new MTZ Mickey Thompson Tires, a 40% road & sand and 60% dirt and mud tyre. I needed a tyre that would carry the extra load and give me superior traction.

Daniel said they look tough and he can now go up tracks where his other past tyres had struggled. The real advantage is we get excellent traction on the long wet grass and surprise surprise we get traction on the side of steep slippery hills where we used to slip sideways a number of times.

Daniel drives a 97 Nissan Patrol and when fully loaded with the gear and a spray tank full he carries approximately 3.5 ton. Besides the tyres looking tough with those big side biters and with the extra load rating the truck also handles noticeably better into corners under load at speed.

Thanks to the team at The Tyre General Temuka, I have a way better traction tyre and my Mickey Thompson Tires fly me up tracks where we struggled before.

What People are Saying About Mickey Thompson Tires

“I bought the new Volkswagen Amarok and the first thing I did was replace the highway tyres with Mickey Thompson 4WD Tyres.”

Alan & Gaylene from McCrostie Parts and Machinery located in the heart of Central Otago say’s, “having the right tool to do the job is important”. When it comes to machinery Alan chooses to sell the Husqvarna brand.

Choosing the right chainsaw to do the job is similar to choosing the right 4WD tyre to the job. Question is, “what is the job you need to do?”

I bought the new Volkswagen Amarok and the first thing I did was replace the highway tyres with Mickey Thompson 4WD Tires. “what a difference that made to the traction and handling capability. Alexandra has some challenging terrain, tight corners, sweeping bends and muddy gravel roads. On any typical day I load up my Amarok with machinery, we tow a one and half ton trailer 8 metres long carrying loads anywhere up to two and half ton. To get the job done I needed an all terrain tyre that could carry the extra load and handle the tough terrain.

The first thing I noticed was the handling into the corners, wow the Mickey Thompson Tires responded so well even under a heavy load at speed, these tyres have given me more confidence when cornering.

The other day I really put the Mickey Thompson Tires to the test. I had to back my fully loaded trailer with machinery up a steep rough gravel road, no easy feat. Even with real loose gravel and muddy conditions that day I was amazed at the traction my new Mickey Thompson Tires offered; I was in a tough spot and managed to get out.

Mickey Thompson Tires are the right tool. The Mickey Thompson STZ tyres are quiet running, tough tires that will get those tough jobs done!
